Happy Birthday to Me

Yes, this post is as self serving as the title sounds (truth in advertising!). In 51 minutes it will be my birthday, at least here in China. Not a terribly big deal really...I have had more than a few; it isn't like it's my first one or anything. Which is my segue to someone who will be having a birthday in September, and it WILL be her first. Which is pretty special, right? Which brings me to my birthday wish...
You see, the little girl having a birthday in September is Maggie. Maggie is my first (and only actually) granddaughter. And I haven't met her yet because I haven't been to the US in 2 and a half years. So my birthday wish is for Kristen and I to go to the US to see Ryan, Laura and especially Maggie and celebrate her first birthday with them.  In fact, I have stepped out in faith and "bought" tickets already, thanks to a tip from a former volunteer about really good fares in September. The "wish" part is because the payment for the tickets is coming up in about two weeks, and I don't have the money. Crazy, right? Yes, probably, but the timing seemed perfect, and I haven't seen fares this low in 10 years, so I did it.
My birthday wish is that at least 30 people would donate $50  over the next week to pay for the plane tickets. Thirty people...$50.... doesn't sound so hard. BUT I am asking all of our regular supporters and anyone who donated to Lindsay's school fund to NOT contribute. That's right, NOT contribute. You already help keep us here, help us pay our rent and buy food, and the generosity poured out on us to fund Lindsay's tuition and travel to the US was nothing short of miraculous. You have done so much already!!
It would really bless me and encourage me if 30 people who have not supported us over the past year would send a gift to let me know that you value the work we do in China and also understand why this visit home is important to us and that you want to make it happen. I believe it can happen. And now it's just 18 minutes until my birthday. Happy Birthday to me!
